I admire

• John Howard (our Aussie Prime Minister) for sending several hundred troops to Iraq so we would have a small group of battle-hardened veterans, enough to defend us if we are ever invaded by Fiji.
• A former State Premier for cutting services and working conditions, causing untold stress, financial hardship and health problems, then quitting politics to head up a charity looking after the needs of people with depression. (??)
• Our current State government for their foresight in enforcing the toughest water restrictions Melbourne has ever seen so that we’d have enough water to fill an enormous pool built specially for a three week international swimming meet, rather than use the 10 year-old $52 million facility (pictured below) that was perfectly fine for last year’s Commonwealth Games. Nice priorities, fellas. I hope you all got to go for a swim before you emptied the pool.
• And of course politicians everywhere for teaching our young people that there are absolutely no negative consequences whatsoever for lying, selling out and breaking promises.

I hope that didn’t come across as all cynical-Generation-X…
