I’ve been tagged.
Again.
No fair, how come I always get tagged? Maybe I just can’t run fast enough; this always happened at school too!
(Secretly I love this, because it gives me a chance to talk about me, and who doesn’t enjoy talking about me themselves?) Thanks to Tyson the Supply Chain Analyst for thinking of me and linking to me. That’s TWO Supply Chain Analysts I now know and my life is all the richer for it…
Rules for this 8 interesting things post:
- Each player must post these rules to begin the meme.
- Each player starts with eight random facts or habits about themselves.
- People who get tagged must blog about their eight things and post these rules. (I love this one Tyson. What happens if I don’t? :))
- At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names.
- Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog.
So here goes. (Dear Lord, PLEASE make this interesting to someone!!)
- I saw Transformers the other day and I’m trying not to rub it in to BadDad because I know he hasn’t seen it. I’ve avoided blogging about it, out of compassion for my New Jersean brother … but I just can’t hold it in anymore: IT ROCKED! 10/10!! BLEW ME AWAY!!! (…sorry, BadDad…)
- I am a HUGE Sci-fi geek-nerd-nut. I know where George Lucas stole his ideas from, why intergalactic travellers should always carry a towel & how to ask directions to the bathroom (or toilet for Aussies) in Klingon; I’m still angry about the creation of Jar Jar Binks & I read 6-12 s/f & fantasy novels a year… See?
- Want to see me literally throw up (and you know you do)? Feed me Corned Beef. Even the smell gives me stomach-fits…
- I used to play drums in a 4th-rate band called Fire Escape. They wouldn’t take on some of the names that I suggested - I was only the drummer after all - such as Razor Blade Kittens, Productive Cough or Noisome. Oh, noooo, we had to call ourselves Fire Escape.
- Janine & I lost our middle child at birth. He was profoundly deformed and it’s a mercy that he didn’t survive. We passed the tenth anniversary of his birth and death this year. Strangely, this experience had an immensely softening & broadening effect on both my relational style and my attitudes toward other human beings. It made me a better person…but why does it have to take tragedy? Sheesh…
- I used to write songs. I have about 20 cassettes (remember those?) full of my complete and half complete songs written in the 1980s & 90s. Only 5 of them were ever performed live … and there was probably a good reason for that.
My wife Janine and I became amourously involved through writing a children’s musical together (sooo romantic huh?) about an iceblock who hates the cold … but that’s another story… - On the subject of music, I love a wide variety of stuff from Bach to Linkin Park (did you see what I did there? They rhyme … well, kind of). But if you had stumbled across me in the 1980s and listened to the cassette (remember those?) playing on my bright red walkman (a prehistoric antededent of the i-pod), you would most likely have heard bands like Devo, Orchestral Maneuvres in the Dark, Simple Minds or the Dead Kennedys.
- And lastly, I value empowerment so highly because it is central to my faith: when one looks closely at Jesus’ lifestyle and philosophy as well as St Paul’s teachings, grace (the defining concept of New Testament faith) is about empowering people to do that which they can’t do on their own, without them earning that empowerment. Coaching, mentoring & of course fathering are all primarily expressions of this value for me.
I now bequeath this meme to the following people and hope they’ll play along over the week ahead. I am resisting tagging the people I normally tag, so that you all get to meet some new folk hopefully … and my overtagged friends don’t come beat me up.

Transformers did rock!
Does your music landscape span into Weird Al land?
I really dig your last item on empowerment, that is awesome insight.
I am really glad I tagged someone I read but never communicated with before.
Thanks again,
Tyson

Razor Blade Kittens, eh? Sounds like you have been hating cats for quite a while …
michmolk // Jul 25, 2007 at 11:04 pm
Oh lordy…I’m not that interesting!!!

Pete, from this 8 things, it now saddens me that we are so alike, yet so far apart.
Transformers = cool. No other way around it.
Music = same likenesses. And a player too!
…BTW, I am really looking forward to what my beautiful wife offers up as her 8 things…

@ Mich: you might be surprised. (And after all, you can make it up; only Steve would know! :))
@ Markk: And … loving it.

And @ TheMolks: I’m still looking forward to you travelling to Melbourne so we can catch up over a … diet yoghurt shake…

Why do I always put an S on the end of TheMolk? Must be this Aussie compulsion to make adjustments to every name we come across…
themolk // Jul 26, 2007 at 9:51 pm
Well, there is always the opportunity for more than just me to come to Melbourne… but it is more likely just me…
…particularly if I can swing it with the new job!

Gah! I’ve been tagged and didn’t know it! I’ll get to work on this right away… thanks for the linkage.
BTW. I keep several blogs actually. But I told my wife I’d blog anonymously so that she wouldn’t be confronted with friends and relatives laughing about my sometimes edgy confessions.

Are you asking if your family can stay at my house?
Pete // Jul 27, 2007 at 2:22 pm
Sorry, “The” Dad - that last one was directed at The Molk. Yours snuck in between my writing and hitting submit.
Good idea about the anonymous. There’s so so much I can’t share because I’m known. What are your other blogs?
The Dad // Jul 27, 2007 at 2:38 pm
Heh. If I told you then I wouldn’t be anonymous would I?
The studious geek could sleuth it out from the intarwebs. I didn’t hide my tracks well.
Pete // Jul 27, 2007 at 2:47 pm
I’ll leave that to Markk or TheMolk then.

Holiday In Cambodia (DKs) is one of my Top 5 songs ever. It has never stopped rocking my socks off - if you’ll pardon the expression.
Sounds like we were writing music at about the same time, though I can’t say I was by any means as prolific as you were. I have about 3 cassettes. My goodness, was I earnest!
I’m pleased to have discovered your blog, Pete. Hey, don’t forget to submit it to the Cutline Showcase.
Pete // Jul 28, 2007 at 11:04 am
Love Holiday in Cambodia. That whole album was brilliant, clever punk, snide sarcastic lyrics, what’s not to love?
Thanks for dropping by, Rory. Heading to your link now.
