So a couple of Aussies are representing us well overseas, I see in the news today (please note my sarcastic tone of voice as I write). Two Australians have been locked up in San Diego’s Central Jail since their arrest last Thursday. Police accuse the sailors of hitting and kicking their alleged victim, breaking his eye socket, after an argument at a party in San Diego about whether Australian Rules Football was better than American football.
?!
Certainly sounds worth beating someone nearly to death over! (Please note: I’m still being sarcastic!)
On another note, every Australian both overseas and at home, is well aware we had a Federal Election last weekend with a very interesting change of government as a result. Now for those of you afraid that I will launch into a political rant, that brings me to today’s subject for Wednesday’s What’s Worse: those annoying people who get so worked up over a subject that they are completely obnoxious or worse!
So for you, which of these people would be worse to be cornered by at a party?
- Someone obsessed by sport
- Someone obsessed by politics
- Someone obsessed with their own accomplishments, genius or looks

Well I fear I’m in danger of falling into the second category . . . so I’m going to discount that one and say number three. I can turn off on the sport, take part in the politics - but really have no interest in anyone’s self-absorption.

easily the 3rd one…cant stand it. especially when it comes to someone believing they have superior knowledge.
the 3rd one can, in some cases, cover the other 2 anyway meaning that they think they know absolutely everything about sport/politics (or any other topic for that matter).
the whole ‘i’m right, you’re wrong’ and not being open to anyone else’s opinions/beliefs has me clenching my teeth.
when topics always end up referring back to them (no matter what you’re talking about!) it is also very annoying.

Number three for sure - I have run across far too many people like that…and coz I’m so polite I usually get stuck for ages!

I don’t mind a good rant on politics and sport (it’s all about a third person) but when the person that I’m talking with starts ranting on about themselves I don’t just turn off I actaully walk away.
Now that I’ve got that off my chest, let’s talk some more about me ….

Looks like we have a clean sweep so far. I must say, I agree with you all, although any one who tries to monopolise a conversation will always have me losing interest in them very fast.

I love 1 & 2 so it is an easy #3.

Now, that everyone has had there say, let me tell you my vastly superior reasoning for #3…
Usually you can tell your going to suffer from a #3 if you here the words “Let me tell you.”

April, I can imagine you loving them and that’s great - I just can’t imagine you being forcing your opinions on others … that’s also great.
Jonathan, sorry, what did you say? I tuned out.
