4th Grade Physics

May 8, 2007

Why a 4th Grade teacher would even bother to teach kids Newton’s Laws of Motion is beyond me. That said, I recently found an old homework sheet from Oldest Son’s Grade 4 year on exactly that topic. Some of his answers were priceless…

Newton’s First Law of Motion says “An object in motion tends to stay in motion & an object at rest tends to stay at rest, unless acted on by an outside force.”

To the question, “If you leave a cookie on a plate and no one else is in the house, where will the cookie be in an hour?”, he responded It depends on whether they come back to the house.cookie

To the question “The horse you are riding stops quickly; what happens to you?”, he wrote Depends how tight you’re holding on.

The 3rd Law says “Every action has an opposite and equal reaction.”. To the question “Two ice-skaters glide into each other at full speed; what will happen?, he replied They fall down, duh.

Sounds to me like he gets it.

Thanks for the laughs. My son has two projects due by the end of the week. Isn’t he turning 18 SOON??

When he does, you’ll miss these days … so I’m told. Thanks for dropping by!

He gets it, alright. No need for Uni Physics there… psychology all the way.

Can I hire him to come and teach my son Newton’s laws of motion? ;)

Only if you throw in a cookie and a pony ride.

I hope the 4th grade teacher included material on the theory of relativity, quantum physics and string theory as well. After all, gotta keep the kids up-to-date, right? Right?

    :D

Yours sons a lot like me…smart of course…!!!

I remember in psychology class at Uni few weeks ago we were talking about baby language…and the lecturer concluded the lecture and asked…” So…hence we conclude that babies are in fact born with..??” to which I replied “Errr…Hands and Legs”

Gautam, you should be a doctor.

Markk, they haven’t even covered String Theory yet and he’s in Grade 6 now. I’m starting to teach him myself; that and Chaos Theory, Trans-Luminal State Theory and Transcendental Perspectivism …

…don’t forget to teach him the theory of nerds not getting dates with hot chicks, too… he’ll need that one…

He defies that theory mate. He looks like a surfie, washboard stomache, straight blonde hair and blue eyes, sporty, already had the girls chasing him …

… looks like the nerd curse skips a generation – not a bad thing!

I have to agree with your theory – my son is only 2, but already looking like a ladies man (and pulling the way older chicks already)… blond hair, blue eyes, wonderful little smile. Thank God genetics decided to be kind to him and smash all my dna had to offer…

Of course, we Dads aren’t biased at all …
