Dental Braces are the New Black

I took Oldest Son to the Dentist this morning. I was not looking forward to it. Last year we spent $4000 on Youngest Son’s teeth, at only 7 years of age.
Yes, I did say thousand. Four of them!
So it was with great relief that I heard the Dentist say to Oldest Son ”You’ve done a great job of looking after your teeth.” I even paid the bill of $30 with a smile.
However. The following (very strange) conversation did take place in the waiting room, one which may yet cost me that next $4000…
Oldest Son: Dad. I want braces. Can I get braces?
Confused Father: You want braces? Why?
Oldest Son: ‘Cause Tim has them. At school. He came to school with them yesterday. They look cool. Can I have braces? Please?
Is it just me, or has the world changed since I was a kid??

Braces are cool these days… in my time they were an indication of “malformation”…
Girl 15 just got braces (round 2). $3000.
Ouch!
@Joe: Wow that is expensive.. echo Pete’s “Ouch” …
That brings back bad memories. I had those miserable things, a night brace and both top and bottom retainers way back when. Doesn’t seem like teeth straightening tactics have advanced in the past 25 years.
To date..I think braces are cool…I never got them…always wanted to…!!!
Young people these days!
Glad to know that I’m still counted as a young one…!!! Sometimes I tell people that I just graduated from High School…Its fun..!!!
It’s because of all the cool funky colours you can get now and they can be clear too…?? Maybe??
yeah I wanted braces for a while there ^ for exactly that reason – all the colours you can get them in now hehe. now i dont…look painful and people that have them are always playing around with them = annoying!
when i was younger i was beside myself with excitement when i was told i needed glasses (dont anymore). i got over it pretty quickly…
geeky looks like its the new cool these days…
You know what the Good Book says: “The Geek shall inherit the Earth” …
